Schools partner with historical society on grant‑funded local history projects for K–12

Darla (district staff) said historical‑society members visited middle school classrooms to talk about the town’s origins and how buildings were moved from Greenville to Banks; she described hands‑on engineering projects that engaged students. Jennifer of the historical society said the grant will support elementary projects about the Wilkes family and ties to Oregon Trail curriculum, as well as a high‑school photographic project recreating early images of Banks.
Why it matters: The grant connects local cultural history with classroom learning and production, including student‑led media work and a proposed photographic competition. Board members praised the partnership and said they looked forward to student presentations in May.
