Roads staff described the planned purchase of a new Ford F-550 Super Crew cab chassis from Styver Ford in Walke for $58,253; the vehicle is intended to carry crews and be upfitted for spraying and brush-removal work. Staff said delivery is likely about three months out and that the county can finance the purchase in the current equipment budget or roll payment into the next fiscal year if delivery occurs after July 1.
The board also authorized a $16,500 purchase of a John Deere R240 disc mower from Van Wall Equipment in Marshalltown to replace an existing disc mower. Staff estimated typical service life of about five years. Finally, supervisors approved the $33,900 purchase of a Land Pride RCPM 3760 hydraulic parallel-arm rotary cutter from Central Iowa Farm Store in Marshalltown. Staff said the arm-mounted cutter will reach slopes, reduce operator rollover risk and lower long-term tree-removal costs.
Why it matters: County roads staff said the purchases will allow a single truck to carry a full crew and tools, reduce the need for towed equipment, and improve operator safety on busy roadways. The combined cost is about $108,653 and staff said funding exists in the equipment budget.
