District previews JGMA athletics program; board asks about solar, stormwater and timing

The handout identifies quantities for many amenities (for example a listing of 10 tennis courts and four adaptable baseball/softball quads). Staff said the design process included meetings with principals, West staff, student council representatives and district operations staff, and noted internship opportunities tied to the project.
Board members asked whether the plan included renewable energy or geothermal, whether walking paths would be permeable surfaces, and how water-source amenities and storage would be provided. On solar and domed indoor facilities, staff said those options were discussed but require further analysis of maintenance and custodial capacity. Staff also confirmed the project scope includes parking and a traffic study and that stormwater management has been considered.
Dr. Alvarez said the consultants will present more concrete sketches at the June 9 board meeting and that the district is aiming to secure approvals by June 1 to stay on schedule for a December 2026 ground-breaking. "This is the time now if you need to see any changes," he said, and staff offered to circulate updated plans to board members in advance of the next presentation.
Next steps: consultants will return with drawings and answers about permeable surfaces, energy options and details about circulation and stormwater. Board members reserved further questions for the June 9 presentation.
