Staff told the Preservation Commission that the state extended the Certified Local Government (CLG) grant application deadline to April 17, giving the city additional time to finalize a draft scope for a historic resources marketing plan. Staff said it will circulate the scope to commissioners for comment and then submit the application.
Commissioners also reviewed plaque material and backing samples presented by Jeff. Options included natural copper (which will patina over time), chemically accelerated patinas, and painted front faces in bone white, terracotta, hunter green, or blue. Commissioners favored lighter face colors (bone white or terracotta) for legibility and to maintain the program’s established aesthetic; they asked staff to bring three face-color options and three backing materials to the next meeting for selection.
Finally, staff updated the commission on a Victorian property for which the Preservation Commission had recommended a special-use permit approach. Staff said the planning and zoning commission will hold a public hearing on April 6 and will forward its recommendation to city council; the item will not return to the Preservation Commission unless additional comments are requested.
Next steps: staff will circulate the CLG grant scope to commissioners, provide plaque samples for selection, and follow the planning-and-zoning hearing schedule for the Victorian property.
