Provo City Emergency Manager Chris Blinzinger announced that Provo will hold its first neighborhood emergency communication exercise on April 16 as part of the statewide Utah Great ShakeOut.
"We're gearing up to conduct our first ever neighborhood emergency communication exercise on April 16th," Blinzinger said. He said the city needs licensed ham radio operators to help run the drill and invited volunteers to sign up.
The exercise will connect neighborhood communication volunteers with city emergency staff as part of the Great ShakeOut statewide preparedness exercise. Blinzinger asked interested ham radio operators to email provoprepared@provo.gov to participate and be "plugged in" to the exercise plan.
The announcement was an informational outreach to recruit volunteers and publicize Provo's participation in the statewide preparedness event. No formal actions or funding decisions were stated during the announcement.
