Board approves Cleveland High course‑guide tweaks and wellness/CTE textbook adoptions

Trustees voted to approve minor updates to the Cleveland High School 2026–27 course guide and to adopt a slate of wellness and career‑technical education (CTE) textbooks identified by teacher committees and state‑approved vendors.
Principal Mr. Pritchard described the course‑guide adjustments as an evolution rather than a large rewrite: RISE (intervention/enrichment block) will be moved to a different daily period and restructured to add enrichment and additional CTE offerings; a parent‑night‑out (PNO) class—partially funded by a Bradley Cleveland Public Education Foundation (BCPEF) grant—was added; and a guitar 2 credit course was created to follow strong club interest and a successful guitar 1 offering.
Dr. Lang presented the textbook‑adoption process required by Tennessee law: state‑approved vendors were reviewed by teacher committees, public feedback was solicited, and the committees recommended titles for middle‑school health and high‑school lifetime wellness and CTE areas. Publishers recommended included Goodheart‑Willcox (health, lifetime wellness and several CTE titles), ICEV Multimedia (engineering/STEM) and CodeHS (information technology). The board voted unanimously to adopt the presented titles.
Ms. Wheeler called the roll for both votes; each passed with seven yes votes.
