The Mayor of Laurens City announced that Seneva has selected the city and Lawrence County for a new manufacturing facility that the mayor said will bring "nearly 600 new jobs which will be coming to the city." The mayor thanked the Lawrence County Development Corporation, county partners and city staff for their role in recruiting the company and said the city will work with council to prepare for the investment.
Why it matters: The mayor framed the announcement as a major economic-development win and emphasized coordination with county partners and city departments to manage growth and infrastructure needs.
In the same remarks, the mayor outlined city initiatives tied to livability and civic engagement. He said a city cleanup enforcement period began April 1 and will run through June 30 to give residents time to address property-maintenance issues. He also encouraged residents to apply to open seats on the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning Commission.
The mayor highlighted recent and upcoming community events, including Steam on Square (an education–community partnership), a Capitol Theater concert series kickoff tomorrow at 7 p.m. (tickets $15 at the door), and movie nights at the Capitol Theater that the mayor said are increasing downtown restaurant traffic. He also announced a dedication and "sound off" for the fire department's new engine—designated Engine One—scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on May 4 and invited council to attend.
What’s next: The mayor said the city will continue working with county partners and staff to prepare for the Seneva investment and directed council and staff to follow up on implementation details as planning moves forward.
