At the meeting’s start the board paused its business to hear a student speech contest winner from Harborside Elementary.
"When most hear [Muay Thai] they think about punching, kicking and fighting. But Muay Thai is not just about fighting. It's about people. It's about respect, friendship, and helping each other become better," the student, who identified themself as a 10‑year‑old Harborside student, told the board. The student described how training built confidence and a sense of belonging.
Trustees and attendees praised the student’s poise and delivery, with one trustee telling the student the board was "inspired" and another saying, "You're going to go really, really far." The board recognized the student as part of the meeting’s special recognition of speech‑contest winners.
The board then moved on to the evening’s administrative and instructional items.
