Oakwood launches Blue Envelope program to aid drivers with disabilities during traffic stops

Oakwood officials announced the launch of the Blue Envelope Program on March 2, a coordinated initiative to help drivers with disabilities more safely communicate during traffic stops.
In collaboration with the Oakwood Inclusion Committee, Oakwood City Schools, Wright Library and the public safety department, the city manager said packets will be available at Wright Library and at the public safety department; additional information will be posted on the city website. The city acknowledged Chief Hill and the public-safety group for researching and bringing the initiative forward.
The program is intended to offer a small, voluntary tool for drivers with disabilities to present to officers during a traffic stop to indicate communication or support needs; city staff said they will work on outreach and distribution through partner organizations.
