The council approved a sidewalk license request for 765 Tea Lounge, doing business as Vanderly restaurant, after the applicant described plans for outdoor dining in the rear parking area.
The applicant, identified in the hearing as Miss Gonzalz, told the council the outdoor seating would be located in the back parking lot and that the business has access to roughly 10 parking spaces across the lot. She said the outdoor arrangement would convert space currently used for about five car spots into seating, and the business expects to offer about 24 seats outside during warm weather to help boost sales.
Council members and planning staff raised parking and layout concerns. A planning/zoning review is required because the license affects the number of available parking spaces relative to occupancy and square footage; the clerk noted that DPW staff had indicated John Hanley had signed off on the arrangement. With those conditions and the requirement that the applicant follow planning and fire protocols, council moved and approved the license.
Councilors expressed support for more outdoor spaces in the downtown area but asked that the business abide by zoning and safety protocol as the license is implemented.
