Perryton ISD considers combining grade levels as enrollment falls

Perryton ISD trustees were told the district is exploring consolidating grade levels on fewer campuses next year as student enrollment declines and Ride Elementary undergoes construction. A district presenter said combining grade levels on the same campus would reduce utility and upkeep costs and promote instructional continuity by letting teachers collaborate and better track students as they move between grades.
District staff also said they are still considering a previously discussed move of Ludy Pena to the high school campus and that the personnel and hiring cycles underway make now the appropriate time to review campus configurations. "We're investigating it pretty seriously," the presenter said, and invited questions and community feedback as planning continues.
Administrators framed the review as preliminary: no final decision has been made and the district will continue studying the impacts on staffing, facilities and student supports before committing to changes. Board members did not take action during the meeting; the matter remains under internal review and subject to future board discussion.
