The Public Service Commission voted to maintain the current Universal Service Trust Fund subscriber charge at 9 cents per month for fiscal year 2027 (July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027).
Staff told the commission the USF supports telephone relay services, specialized telecommunications equipment, audio newspaper distribution, and a senior call check program. Zitisa of staff said FY2025 USF revenue was about $3.8 million while program costs were about $5.4 million; the charge was increased from 5 cents to 9 cents for FY2026, and staff projects FY2026 revenues of roughly $5.4 million against costs of about $4.9 million. Based on those projections, staff recommended maintaining the current charge to keep the fund balanced for the coming fiscal year.
Commissioners had no substantive follow-up questions and approved the motion on roll call by unanimous vote.
The Commission’s action maintains current funding for the USF-funded programs; staff remains available to provide additional details if commissioners request further analysis.
