South Salt Lake council adopts multi-fund budget amendment, confirms two Civilian Review Board appointments

The South Salt Lake City Council voted March 11 to adopt a budget amendment that adjusts line items across multiple funds, and it confirmed two civilian review board appointments.

Crystal, presenting the proposal in the council chamber, said the amendment would change the general fund, the public-safety special revenue fund, the capital fund, and the city’s water, sewer and storm water funds, though she emphasized most funds had only a single line-item change. Councilmembers noted one clerical correction — a line item listed at $5,000 should read $4,000 — and approved the amendment "as presented." Crystal answered a public question that the proposed storm water amendment does not include the new transportation fee mentioned in other discussions.

A public commenter, Alex Chang of South Salt Lake, asked specifically whether the storm water fund amendment included the transportation fee; staff replied it did not and invited further comments by email. After the public hearing the council took final action on the amendment; the motion passed on a roll-call vote.

The meeting also moved two personnel actions by mayoral appointment. Sarah Jensen was advanced from a Civilian Review Board alternate to a regular voting member after a motion for advice and consent was approved by the council. The council likewise approved Katherine Taylor to serve as an alternate member of the Civilian Review Board.

Motions and votes at the meeting: a councilmember moved and the council seconded adoption of the budget amendment (with the clerical correction noted); the council then approved the appointments of Sarah Jensen and Katherine Taylor by advice-and-consent motions and roll-call votes.

Council members thanked staff for their work on the amendment. No closed session was requested and the meeting adjourned later in the evening.
