Mt. Healthy board approves contracts, staffing reallocations and CMAC membership; holds brief executive session

The Mt. Healthy City Board of Education on Tuesday approved a slate of contracts and personnel actions, including a facility-contract renegotiation staff said will save roughly $41,980, a reallocation of one social-worker position to a reading-interventionist role at South Elementary, and the district’s application to join the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference.

Contracts and savings: Staff reviewed new vendor agreements intended to reduce operating costs for services that include substitute/paraprofessional staffing, HVAC planned maintenance and elevator service. Board materials and staff statements said the new HVAC contract (identified in materials by the vendor name used in the packet) is projected to save $41,980 versus the prior preventative-maintenance contract; other vendor changes were described as adding incremental savings on elevator maintenance and emergency phone services.

Personnel actions: The board approved the personnel slate that included resignations, a reinstatement under recall rights, administrative personnel recommendations, contract changes and transfers, and the annual non-renewal notices for paraprofessionals with under-four years’ experience per the classified union contract. The board also approved a reallocation of an FTE: eliminating a listed social-worker position and posting a reading-interventionist position to support South Elementary, which staff said the state has identified as a comprehensive improvement building. Board members voted to go into a short executive session to discuss one resignation item before returning to public session.

Athletics and programs: The board voted to accept an invitation to apply for full membership in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference for all sports; scheduling and a membership fee will be addressed as the district prepares for the later school-year start date tied to the conference entry.

Votes and process: All motions on the contracts, personnel items, CMAC membership and related routine motions passed by unanimous votes as recorded in the meeting minutes. Several staff members and board members thanked Shaina Berg and other staff for procurement work that produced identified savings.

Next steps: Staff will post the contracts and personnel actions as required, post openings for the reading-interventionist position, and carry forward athletic-scheduling tasks and budget budgeting associated with conference membership.
