Staff explained the Transportation Alternatives Program was highly competitive (roughly $2.4 million available versus $36 million requested across applications). Midvale submitted two applications: a buffered bike-lane and pedestrian-improvement project on Bingham Junction Boulevard and a Jordan River bridge project. The WFRC draft recommendation would allocate $400,000 to the Bingham Junction improvements and $1,000,000 to the bridge, which together would represent a significant portion of that program's available funds.
Staff noted the bridge application included coordination and support from neighboring cities (West Jordan and Murray) and that the WFRC process includes additional technical and council reviews before awards are final. If the recommendations hold, the funds would advance Midvale’s ability to improve nonvehicle access to the Bingham Junction/Wasatch Choice center and fund the Jordan River crossing.
Commissioners were briefed on timelines and encouraged to follow up with staff or attend upcoming WFRC meetings if they had questions. Staff emphasized the awards are not yet final and must pass through additional WFRC committees and the governing council for confirmation.
