Council adopts wastewater plan, awards storm‑drain and road contracts and approves seasonal hire

At its April 14 meeting the Kamas City Council approved several operational items and contract awards that staff said are ready to proceed.

Wastewater planning: The council adopted Resolution 2026‑2, approving the Kamas Municipal Wastewater Planning Program as presented. Scott and Trevor reviewed the plan and confirmed staff coverage following a recent retirement; the resolution passed on a unanimous vote.

Contract awards: Bids were opened for two public‑works projects. The council awarded the 100 South storm‑drain improvement project to Geneva Rock Products, the low bidder at $95,620, in a unanimous vote; the project segments the open ditch between the Sign Bank entrance and First West and includes a $60,000 contribution from UDDo (as noted by staff). The council also awarded the 2026 road‑maintenance contract (crack seal and slurry seal) to Asphalt Preservation LLC, the low bidder at $181,625; councilmembers discussed scheduling slurry‑seal work to occur after schools are out.

Seasonal hire: The council approved hiring a seasonal part‑time office employee on terms similar to last year (approximately 130 hours, roughly $2,600) and directed staff to begin interviews and onboarding. Members supported exploring whether the position should be made recurring in future budget cycles and requested follow‑up with the city attorney on permanence if pursued.

Other items: Planning staff announced a $334,293 CDBG award and upcoming pavilion and restroom installations at Beaver Creek Park; public works reported completed water‑line replacements and spring maintenance work.
