The Calimesa City Council on April 6 presented a proclamation recognizing Donate Life California month and heard a brief personal statement from a OneLegacy representative.
City officials introduced the proclamation and thanked Katherine Mance and other guests attending for the presentation. A OneLegacy representative who identified herself as Cat described her family's experience: her 11-year-old son Christopher became an organ donor eight and a half years ago, and she said she has since met his three organ recipients.
"Because of that decision, lives were not only saved, but families were given hope in moments where there once was none," Cat said, describing the continuing impact of donation.
In her remarks she cited a statewide waiting list figure: "There are currently over 107,000 people waiting for a life-saving organ. 20% of those live here in California." The council presented the proclamation to the guests and thanked them for their work raising awareness and supporting donation conversations.
The proclamation is an annual recognition the city uses to support outreach and awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation.
