Calimesa deputy sheriff reports low violent crime, several proactive enforcement actions in March

Captain Esabel delivered the sheriff's monthly report to the Calimesa City Council on April 6, detailing crime counts and enforcement activity for March 2026.
He said there were no homicides and no robberies reported for the month. The department recorded two assaults, two burglaries, two vehicle thefts and 14 theft or larceny reports. Captain Esabel said deputies made 21 arrests and issued 51 citations during March.
The captain described concentrated enforcement efforts in late March and reported that a proactive operation on March 31 produced 23 citations and the service of five arrest warrants. He also said a separate concentrated traffic enforcement effort resulted in about 50 traffic citations for speeding and other violations.
Captain Esabel said his office is reviewing a rise in response times for priority one calls and will report back with findings. He offered to answer council questions and said the department had conducted homeless outreach during enforcement operations.
"I do have the sheriff's monthly report... for the month of March 2026," Captain Esabel said. "There were no homicides for the month of March. Um, no robberies. There were two assaults... two burglaries... two vehicle thefts... and there was a total of 14 thefts or larceny thefts."
