Governor Cox announced that the Logan Downtown Alliance has become the first organization in Utah to earn statewide and national accreditation from Utah Main Street and Main Street America, calling the recognition a “historic milestone for our great state.”
Cox said the achievement reflects “years of hard work and vision” and noted the recognition is timely during Historic Preservation Month, when communities focus on preserving and celebrating their heritage. He credited the Alliance with strengthening downtown business, preserving local culture and building public-private partnerships that align local government, civic organizations and residents.
The governor described Utah Main Street — part of the historic preservation office in the Department of Cultural and Community Engagement — as providing hands-on training, technical assistance and targeted funding to support community-led revitalization. “Utah Main Street achieves this using their four-point approach, which includes economic vitality, design, promotion, and organization,” Cox said.
Cox placed the local recognition in a national context, saying the Main Street movement “in 2024 alone helped generate more than 7.6 billion in reinvestment and more than 33,000 new jobs nationwide.” He urged other Utah communities to look to Logan as a model for preserving historic downtowns while supporting economic growth.
The announcement noted that the Logan Downtown Alliance has prioritized a long-term sustainable model since its inception in 2003, building partnerships between the public and private sectors. The governor closed by congratulating the Alliance on becoming Utah’s first nationally accredited Main Street community and said the state was proud of the accomplishment.
