Westwood robotics team showcases season, teamwork and plans to aim for state competition

Students and mentors from the Westwood robotics team presented highlights of their season at the May 6 board meeting, describing team makeup, safety practices and goals for next year.
Presenter Miss Zel said the current team included 10th graders, eighth-graders, freshmen and alumni mentors who helped with driving and programming. Team members demonstrated aspects of the competition, discussed how they solved mechanical and programming challenges and emphasized safety in the lab. Miss Zel noted that safety was a priority and that students learned technical and teamwork skills during the season.
The team described hopes to expand student skills and to field a drive system that would be more competitive next year, and expressed intent to reach the state competition. Board members in the meeting praised the students and their mentors and encouraged attendance at future competitions.
The presentation concluded with applause and a lighthearted exchange about the team’s cheer and keychains for guests. The board thanked the students, mentors and the adults who support the program.
