Grage said the changes correct an oversight from a 2019 code reorganization that left some smaller-scale repair uses unpermitted in the industrial zone.
The amendment would add definitions and a zone-specific standard to prevent high-customer-turnover uses—such as quick-lube stations or express tire-change shops—from locating in the industrial zone, while allowing longer-duration repair and boat-service businesses that align with industrial operations. Planning Commission held a public hearing on April 14 and recommended approval with modifications reflected in the draft presented to council.
Councilmembers asked staff to ensure the language preserves maritime and long-term industrial uses while permitting compatible businesses; the ordinance was directed to return on the consent agenda for approval at the next meeting.
