Hilltop School for the Arts update: construction on schedule, programming and auditions underway

District staff provided a detailed implementation update for the Hilltop School for the Arts, covering construction progress, operational planning and programming outreach.

Presenters shared drone footage dated April 28 and said the project remains on schedule for student occupancy on July 17 and a theater opening on Oct. 2. Staff warned of a recent supply issue: a longstanding fabric supplier for auditorium seats went out of business, creating a procurement challenge the team is working to resolve to keep the construction timeline.

Beyond construction, staff described operational planning—ticketing, rentals, concessions, safety and accessibility—and ongoing coordination with the City of Litchfield Park and contractor McCarthy and Associates. Programming efforts include creating a season framework prioritizing student needs, rentals and community partners; staff reported active conversations with promoters and arts organizations.

Auditions are continuing: the district reported a second round of auditions on April 25 that added about 23–30 applicants since February, and applications will remain open through July with roughly three applications per week reported at the time of the meeting. Staff also described outreach to families of ESS students and coordination with counselors to ensure appropriate support.

Speakers noted work remains on instructional pacing and textbook/supply readiness in anticipation of the July opening. No vote was required for the informational update.
