The Lisbon School District Board on May 26 approved a new lead‑maintainer pay scale and endorsed a reorganization that combines business and facilities leadership into a Director of Finance & Operations role.
Jonathan Paradise presented the job description and wage range used for recruitment (advertised $60,000–$70,000). He said the lead‑maintainer would perform hands‑on mechanical and custodial work to reduce contractor costs and support emergency responses. "This gives a salary range of 58,000 to 72,000 when advertising this position," Paradise said.
Nut graf: After discussion about weekend checks, overtime exposure and proximity for emergency calls, the board voted to accept the proposed pay scale and to move forward with the Director of Finance & Operations model (a consolidation of the business manager and facilities supervisory functions). The board also agreed to reassign administrative assistant hours between the superintendent's office and the business office to support the new structure.
Board members noted the building’s recent issues — clogged sewer, hot‑water pump and flow sensor alarms — as evidence of the district’s need for an experienced maintainer who can respond quickly. The board discussed whether the maintainer should be hourly or salaried and the tradeoffs between a full‑time lead maintainer, a part‑time facilities manager, or the combined director model. Several members stressed the immediate need for reliable weekend checks and the district’s plan to upgrade remote monitoring systems to reduce calls.
Motion and votes: The lead‑maintainer pay scale was accepted unanimously. The board also moved, seconded and approved the Director of Finance & Operations approach and the administrative support realignment; administrators will return with job descriptions, final salary recommendations and any required contract language.
The district will interview maintenance candidates this week and proceed with posting or hiring consistent with the approved pay scale and the chosen organizational model.
