UOG reports occupancy permits and advances EDA closeout, moves ahead on IT and generator projects

University administrators told the Board of Regents on May 14 that final inspections and occupancy permits were received May 8 for the Margaret Paristorii Uchima School of Health Nursing Annex and the Water and Environmental Research Institute of the Western Pacific facilities, milestones necessary to begin formal closeout under the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant requirements.
"We received those occupancy permits on Friday, May 8th as part of the requirements of the U.S. Economic Development Administration's closeout procedures," the vice president for administration and finance reported, noting the university will finalize closeout documents in the coming month and aims for a ribbon-cutting later in the summer.
Facilities updates included near-completion of a generator to provide energy redundancy for the university's computing center, library and research facilities; a campus VoIP rollout with roughly 100 phone numbers ported to date and estimated per-unit billing reductions of $40–$65; and the launch of an ERP/IT modernization project with a forthcoming customer architecture reference model.
Administrators also briefed the board on dorm roof repairs, ongoing assessment of additional dorms subject to funding, and cyber‑security compliance efforts. They said a recent cyber event affecting Guam did not impact UOG systems and that the university continues to work with FEMA and the governor's recovery office on typhoon-related damage assessments.
Board members acknowledged the reports and expressed appreciation to staff who advanced several capital and IT milestones while emphasizing continued oversight as implementation proceeds.
