District trims some low‑enrollment pathways, expands articulation and AP options in new course catalog

Appoquinimink School District leaders reviewed an updated high‑school course catalog and a newly published middle‑school catalog on March 10.
Dr. Feathers and Mike Tgo said the catalog for the Class of 2030 now lists 21 career pathways, 25 AP course titles and 42 AP exam opportunities. To ensure sustainable offerings, the district removed a Global Leadership pathway and several low‑enrollment AP courses (fewer than 10 students district‑wide in some cases). Counselors met individually with the small number of affected students to preserve opportunities to complete program coursework where possible.
Changes intended to expand student access include making Criminal Investigations & Technology Applications repeatable and available for additional articulated credits through Wilmington University partnerships, and presenting AP Seminar as an English‑level option for grade 10. The catalog also embeds the state‑required financial‑literacy content into two 10th‑grade social‑studies course options.
The board discussed weighting of advanced courses (AP = +1.0 GPA point; honors = +0.5) and whether students taking AP exams without the formal AP class should receive grade weight (staff clarified exam performance alone does not alter GPA weight). Dr. Feathers said the district is working to improve student awareness about articulations so graduates can realize college credits at Delaware institutions.
The board thanked staff for the catalog work and emphasized outreach so students and families understand articulated credit opportunities and how to claim them at partner colleges.
