After a three‑month committee process and public comment, the Appoquinimink School District Board voted on March 10 to adopt the 2026–27 district calendar.
Dr. Feathers presented the committee's timeline and public feedback summary and reviewed key dates: staggered student start (grades 1–9 plus a split kindergarten start Aug. 31; grades 10–12 and remaining kindergarten Sept. 1), professional learning days, winter break beginning Dec. 23, spring break beginning March 26, and the usual federal holidays. The committee said it made no changes from the draft presented the previous month.
Several members voiced objections to asynchronous days built into the calendar as substitutes for snow days; one board member called for eliminating scheduled asynchronous days and preferred that students simply take snow days. Another member expressed minor objections to a December 23 day off but acknowledged the compromises inherent in calendar setting.
On a motion by Mr. Abrams with a second from Dr. Graham, the board adopted the calendar as presented. The motion passed; no detailed tally was recorded in the minutes beyond the chair's announcement that the motion carried.
The calendar will be posted to the district website and used for registration, scheduling and planning for the 2026–27 school year.
