A staff member reviewing the agenda said about $53,000 remained on the governmental side for AED purchases and cited an estimated unit price of $1,750. Committee members discussed priorities — public-safety vehicles, the courthouse and some schools — and noted some school units may be recently updated. To ensure community input and oversight, members proposed a five-person group that includes community representation and named Plant Mathis, Genie Hyde, Greg, John and the sheriff as participants.
Committee members moved and seconded a motion to allocate $53,000 for AEDs and to form the subcommittee; the motion passed by voice vote. The subcommittee will review quotes and placement options and report back at the committee’s next meeting. The committee then formally approved the subcommittee membership by voice vote.
The committee noted that available abatement funds are limited and advised the subcommittee to seek the "biggest bang for our buck" when recommending placements. The committee will forward the allocation to the County Commission for final administrative approval as part of the regular process.
