South Pasadena approves pension-board appointments and urges state records exemption for municipal election staff

At its Feb. 10 meeting the City Commission of South Pasadena approved two resolutions: one appointing members to the firefighters pension board of trustees and another urging the Florida Legislature to enact a public-records exemption for municipal clerks and employees involved in municipal elections or code enforcement.
The city attorney read Resolution 2025-02, "a resolution of the City of South Pasadena, Florida appointing 2 members to the firefighters pension board of trustees." The resolution lists Richard O'Connor and Edgar Jackson Vassford III as appointees. A commissioner noted a personal relationship with one of the appointees and said they would recuse from the vote; the motion to adopt the resolution was moved, seconded and the commission recorded affirmative votes and approved the measure.
The city attorney then read Resolution 2025-03, "a resolution of the city commission of the city of South Pasadena, Florida, urging the Florida state legislature to enact legislation to provide a public records exemption for municipal clerks and employees who perform municipal elections work or have any part in code enforcement functions of a city and providing for an effective date." Commissioners said the item had been discussed previously at a workshop, there was no further discussion at the meeting, and the resolution was adopted on a recorded vote.
The two resolutions were adopted during the meeting's new-business segment after the consent agenda. The commission took no additional action beyond adoption and noted standard procedural follow-up for appointment paperwork and any required recusals.
