Kokomo trustees honor Kokomo High Technocats and Indoor Winds with formal resolutions

The Kokomo School Corporation Board of Trustees on May 4 adopted resolutions honoring two Kokomo High School student groups for statewide achievements: the Technocats robotics team and the Indoor Winds ensemble.

The board read a resolution recognizing the Technocats for technical proficiency during the 2025–26 FIRST/FRC season, noting the team’s third-place finish at its week-one meet at Penn High School, multiple robot redesigns during the season and a top-10 first-day ranking at the Indiana State Championship. Kokomo High School Principal Angela Blessing praised the students’ “technical skill and their ability to pivot and improve under pressure,” saying their work “demonstrates a deep commitment to the engineering process and a remarkable work ethic.” The resolution names coaches Dr. Joy Duing and Mr. John Sarah and was entered into the minutes by motion and voice vote.

A student representative for the Technocats thanked the board and mentors for supporting academics and extracurricular programs. A coach and mentor present also described the time commitment and community role of the team.

The board then approved a resolution recognizing Kokomo High School’s Indoor Winds for finishing as the Indiana Percussion Association scholastic A state runner-up on March 21, 2026, and for a decade of program growth. Director Justin Extrum told trustees this was the program’s 10th season and reflected on the challenges facing arts programs statewide—citing declining enrollment and budget pressures that have led other schools to suspend ensembles. Principal Blessing again commended students and staff for sustaining high standards.

Both resolutions were moved, seconded, and carried by voice vote. The items will be spread of record in the meeting minutes and copies provided to the named coaches and directors.

The meeting then moved on to routine business.
