Council members discussed that the city lacks a standing policy covering fireworks on city property and emphasized the need to ensure liability coverage and to consult businesses located near the proposed fallout radius.
Council members questioned sightlines and tradition — noting that residents are used to Fourth of July displays at the golf course and high school — but several said they were comfortable trying a downtown display if the chamber and the pyrotechnics company, Starfire, provide paperwork showing site planning and insurance. Council added a 50-foot buffer to the pyrotechnician’s recommended 350-foot radius, creating a 400-foot review radius and placed approval contingent on documentation from affected businesses.
The motion to accept Resolution 26-10 with those stipulations passed after a member moved and another seconded. The council did not record individual vote tallies in the meeting transcript; the clerk announced the motion carried.
