The Milton School District Board of Education ratified a collective-bargaining agreement with the Milton Education Association that provides a 2.63% increase to the base wage, the maximum cited in the meeting as allowed by the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission. District presenters said the 2.63% increase equates to $1,331 and makes the new base wage $51,931.
Separately, the board approved a market adjustment of $469 to the newly approved base wage; the adjustment will be prorated for part-time staff and would raise the base wage to $52,400. HR staff said the base wage increase flows through the district salary matrix and affects all teaching staff whose starting wage is the base.
Board members discussed why the negotiated CPI-based increase and the market adjustment were handled as separate actions: staff explained negotiation limits and that market adjustments were discussed outside of the formal negotiation session. Both the ratification and the market-adjustment motions were moved, seconded and approved by the board; HR will prepare teacher contracts for review at the May 11 meeting.
The actions change the baseline of the district pay matrix and will affect subsequent step and salary calculations for teaching staff.
