Superintendent reports book grant, indoor mapping safety work and flags possible federal budget impacts

The district superintendent reported several grants and safety upgrades and urged board members to prepare for budget changes ahead of June budget approvals.

She said the district was selected by the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation for over 100 English-language-learner books and 10 Spanish books; the superintendent plans to pick up the donation on June 23 and share photos with the board. She also reported the district completed work on indoor building mapping with county 911 so first responders will have up-to-date building plans; the county’s final information was provided in mid-April and the district expected confirmation in June.

The superintendent further described an agricultural education summer grant that will pay a teacher for FFA-related summer work; those funds will come through the state and be recorded as incoming money to the district. She warned that Congress recently adjourned and that federal funding decisions could affect the district budget; she said she would send a follow-up email to the board with details when federal guidance becomes available.

She reminded the board that the June meeting will include approval of the revised budget, the final budget and the long-term facility maintenance plan, and flagged existing pressures such as special education deficits and paid family medical leave that will appear in budget documents.

The superintendent provided no dollar totals for federal impacts or the grants; specific budget figures will be included in the June budget materials.
