District administrators told the Columbus School District board on Feb. 23 they have opened a national search for a new director of business services and plan to interview candidates in the first week of March, with a goal of having the position filled by June 1.
"The posting's been open for about one week and we have more than a handful of candidates," the business services presenter, identified in the record as Jay, said in the update. He said the district anticipates two to three rounds of interviews and will try to expedite hiring where possible.
While the position is vacant, the administration recommended the board accept a temporary services agreement with CISA 5 to provide director-level services on site. Jay told the board the vendor would assign a dedicated person to the district (backed by a team) and that service options vary week to week — including up to three on-site days some weeks — and that the contract is month-to-month. "If we were able to fill the position prior to June 1 for any reason, we would be able to exit that contract without penalties," Jay said.
Board members asked about continuity and whether the district would see the same individual at board meetings; Jay said the assigned person would likely appear at meetings as needed but would be supported by a team.
The board approved the superintendent’s consent agenda that includes the business services contract; the administration will proceed with vendor onboarding and continued recruitment for a permanent hire.
Next steps include scheduled interviews in early March and continued candidate review; the administration did not provide a deadline beyond the June 1 staffing target.
