District hears semi-annual delinquent-tax report; firm reports $408,000 collected and one property sold

Jaime Gonzalez, a partner with Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, presented the district’s semi-annual delinquent-tax report for July 1–Dec. 31, 2025, telling trustees the firm used mailings, phone outreach, in-person 'knock and talk' visits and a newly launched text program to reach taxpayers.
Gonzalez said the office executed four demand mailings, made more than 932 phone calls and conducted 141 property visits that led to more than 50 in-office appointments and 42 payoff requests. During the reporting period the firm filed 32 lawsuits and disposed of 33 cases through payments, recovering about $129,000 in those disposals. Overall collections for the six months totaled $408,000, Gonzalez said.
He described foreclosure and sale as a last resort and said none of the properties sold during this period were homesteads; sales targeted vacant, abandoned lots or commercial properties. "We don't want to sell anybody's property," Gonzalez said, explaining the office frequently pulls properties from sale if taxpayers arrange payment plans before foreclosure.
Board members did not request immediate action after the report; several trustees thanked the firm for its cooperative approach. Gonzalez said preliminary numbers for the months following the reporting period were strong and that his firm expects to improve year-over-year collections.
The report included operational metrics and options for continued outreach; the district will receive the firm's full fiscal-year statistics in a forthcoming report.
