The Jackson Public School District presented and the board approved its monthly financial report for the period ending March 31, 2026.
Finance lead Miss Bernell said the district's March 31 general fund balance was about $24.1 million, a roughly 9.6% decrease compared with March 2025. She said the district's ending cash balance as of March 31 was about $25.9 million compared with $37.3 million at the same point last year, a decline of approximately $11 million. The child-nutrition fund balance was reported at about $7.3 million. The special-revenue fund showed a negative balance (roughly $6.1 million) driven by timing of federal drawdowns and pending amendments; staff said drawdown requests were submitted and adjustments are underway.
Miss Bernell reported year-to-date revenues collected were roughly $180 million (about 78.3% of budget) with district expenditures at about $178.8 million (77.8% of budget). She explained the district is switching financial systems from Marathon to Munis and that teams worked to reconcile and transfer balances; updates and revisions to FY24 and FY25 financials are ongoing with a target to present revised FY26 plans to the board next month.
Board members asked about indirect-cost timing and whether certain ARP-era reimbursements had expired; administration said the large indirect amounts from earlier federal ARP-era grants are no longer available at the same scale, affecting year-over-year comparisons. Board members voted to approve the monthly report.
