The Sault Ste. Marie City Commission voted Aug. 19 to authorize issuance of a request for proposals to perform a cost-benefit analysis of Anderson Field Airport, at the request of the TIFA 3 board. City Manager Jetman said the analysis would examine potential alternative uses for the airport property ahead of TIFA 3’s expiration and help the city and TIFA decide how best to move forward.
Commissioner Gage moved to approve the RFP authorization; the motion was seconded and commissioners voted unanimously. Commissioner Habusta asked for clarification that the commission was approving only the RFP and that the notation "to be funded by TIFA 3" reflected the TIFA 3 board's stated intention rather than a finalized expenditure; the city manager confirmed the RFP authorization does not commit funds beyond the board’s intent and that the actual cost would be determined after the RFP process.
City staff noted there was no cost estimate in the presentation; the commission approved moving forward with the RFP so the TIFA 3 board could solicit proposals and later decide on funding and scope based on returned bids.
