City adopts multiple ordinances, expands advisory committees and appoints rodeo, veterans members
Summary
At second reading the commission adopted ordinances establishing a Veterans Memorial advisory committee and arroyo advisory committee, adopted a codified code of ordinances, amended parking rules and adjusted golf-course committee meeting requirements; commissioners also expanded and appointed members to the rodeo committee and named members for the Veterans Memorial committee.
Rio Grande City commissioners on April 30 conducted second readings and approvals of several ordinances and moved forward on advisory-committee appointments.
The ordinance package included the establishment of a Veterans Memorial advisory committee (ordinance 20 26 0 3); an arroyo advisory committee (20 26 0 4); adoption of a codified Code of Ordinances (20 26 0 5) consolidating chapters 1–44; amendments to parking of heavy and commercial trucks within residential and commercial areas (amending prior ordinance 20 25 0 3); and a revision to the golf-course committee meeting requirements (20 26 0 7). During discussion commissioners amended the proposed rodeo committee membership from seven to 14 to accommodate community interest.
The commission then appointed the following to the rodeo committee: Anna Sepulveda; Victor Garcia; Victor Garcia III; Earl Lockwood III; Daniel Salinas; Jackie Barrera; Juan Barrera; Sixto Flores; David Rios; Daniel Inoxo; Crystal Emmeno Hossa; Pedro Laurel; and H. Bassan; and added Eduardo Lalo Garza as an additional member. Veterans Memorial advisory committee appointees named at second reading included Myra Quilloz, Arturo Lopez and David Porras.
All motions to approve the ordinances, membership changes and appointments carried unanimously. The ordinances include severability clauses and effective dates as drafted, and staff said the appointments will allow advisory committees to begin meeting under the new bylaws and reporting requirements.
