The Sault Ste. Marie City Commission voted unanimously Aug. 19 to award a bid to Spartan Distributors of Sparta, Michigan, for a Toro Groundsmaster 4100 mower and to approve related budget and accessory purchases. City Manager Jetman recommended the award, saying the package was bid and the Toro equipment best met the parks department’s needs.
Commissioner Christian Bauer moved to award the bid for $93,657.72; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Bauer also moved to increase the stock and equipment capital line by $10,000 and to approve purchase of a rotary broom attachment for $11,271.38; both motions were seconded and approved unanimously.
Commissioners asked about expected delivery timing; the city manager said lead times were around 12 to 18 months, noting deliveries commonly slip into the following snow season. The commission directed no further changes and approved the three separate motions on the floor.
The actions approved will add the new mower to the parks fleet; the city said the current 15-year-old model would be retained as a reserve unit. No additional funding source beyond the approved budget amendment was specified in the meeting materials.
