District curriculum director recommends two math programs; board to review materials ahead of June vote

Dr. Wales, the district’s director of curriculum, briefed the board on the district’s multi‑month review of math curriculum materials and recommended two vendors to support the K–12 math program.

She said the curriculum‑writing process revealed misalignments in standards, assessments and resources across grade levels and that the district narrowed an initial list of seven vendors to two finalists. The recommended packages include a K–5 and high‑school sequence (Reveal/McGraill product) and a middle‑school‑focused vendor (Edge Gems). Dr. Wales emphasized that both products include unit and lesson structures with embedded formative checks, proficiency tracking, differentiated practice and online extensions for teachers and students.

"They are just materials. It's just resources," Dr. Wales said, adding the administration is asking the board to approve vendor purchases so the district can provide professional learning and fidelity supports during implementation. "We're asking for a six‑year purchase for this product," she said, and noted that administrators and teachers will have access to the full materials at the district office for review before a June vote.

Board members thanked the curriculum team and highlighted teacher involvement in vetting the materials. Dr. Wales and other administrators offered to provide access, demonstration videos and in‑person reviews for board members and interested residents before approval.

The board did not take a vote on the vendor recommendation at the meeting; administrators said the items will be posted for public review and returned to the board for action in June.
