Blue River Valley board approves budget reports, grants, personnel changes and student activities

Board actions recorded during the meeting included unanimous approval of the April financial report and of payroll and claims. The board accepted a federal Title IIA professional-development grant of $19,732.81 intended for teacher professional development and approved a Viking Vault grant written by a Wednesday Works student group to fund organization supplies for a school donation vault. Both grants were approved by voice vote.
The board accepted several donations to support extracurricular activities and prom (Martin Insurance $200; Tony May $100), an anonymous $100 donation for the FFA soils trip, and $300 total for the track program from two donors. The donations were approved on a voice vote recorded in the transcript.
The board approved the Chartwells food service contract for the 2026–27 school year, noting that food-service bids will be solicited next year. It also approved the student transfer report for 2026–27 (24 students listed; six new to the district; one denial), and authorized overnight trips including cheer and volleyball camps this summer.
Ashley B read the personnel report, which the board approved. Items included resignation of Vicki Fisher (special education paraprofessional, effective 5/21), hiring of Breanna Cash (K–2 special education resource), Caitlin Ziegler (high school English), Nathan Veale (band director, effective 8/10), summer-school hires, and the retirement of Mike Roder (effective 5/22). The board also approved extracurricular coaching personnel, including the hiring of Mike Dickerson as head boys varsity basketball coach.
The meeting opened with a student spotlight recognizing sixth-graders Braden Oakwin and Eva Edwards for classroom problem solving and creativity. With routine business completed, the board announced its next regular meeting for June 11 at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned.
