Hopatcong board honors student representatives, notes staff retirement and local events

The Hopatcong Borough School District Board of Education used part of its May meeting to recognize student leaders, confirm upcoming school events and accept personnel actions.
Student representatives summarized spring athletics, arts and testing schedules: Reagan reported spring-sports results and the sports award ceremony; Lily and another student highlighted NJSLA testing dates (May 18–29), yearbook and literary-magazine production, band and drama achievements and fundraisers including a townwide garage sale and marching-band car wash. The board adopted a resolution honoring student board representatives Natalia Jirena Roman, Reagan Grava and Lillian Zinsley for their service and invited rising juniors and seniors to apply for the next student-representative term.
Under personnel, the board noted that Mary Burns will retire at the end of the school year after 22 years of service; trustees offered public thanks and best wishes. Parent–teacher organizations reported upcoming events including a color run on June 6, multiple ice-cream socials and Project Graduation (overnight, June 11–12) and confirmed planning details for band camp in August. The public-comment period had no speakers. Finance and personnel agenda items were moved and approved by roll call earlier in the meeting.
Board members closed by wishing students luck on finals and thanking volunteer groups and staff. The meeting adjourned after routine motions.
