Administrators provided a detailed update on construction at the new GFW school and reviewed a full slate of end‑of‑year activities and summer programs.
Dr. Kelly described progress: windows and casework are in, work on storm shelter, kitchen and gym roofing areas is largely complete, slab pours for several areas are finished or underway, masonry and air barrier installation are nearly finished on the front of the building, and rooftop air‑handling units were recently set in place. He said once slabs are poured and the building enclosure is complete, work will shift to finishing interior spaces such as locker rooms, band and music areas and the commons. The district also plans to begin moving soils for the future athletic complex, including the football field and track, in mid‑to‑late May.
Dr. Kelly warned weather has caused significant schedule impacts; administration said roughly 74 working days were lost to wet, cold and windy conditions compared with the prior year. Despite the delays administration said the overall schedule remains on track and showed photos to the board illustrating recent progress.
Other updates: Thompson outlined the summer school plan (July 21–Aug. 1 using an updated camp model), registration numbers for kindergarten kickoff (34 families), and testing and event schedules across grade bands. The student council and activity leaders reported spring athletics, music performances, FFA regional results and upcoming prom and graduation dates. Facilities staff summarized ongoing maintenance work and purchases of classroom desks.
What’s next: Administration will post construction progress and bond/abatement details on the district website and will continue to update the board at the May meetings.
