Argos Community Schools — The board approved multiple personnel actions during its Jan. 20 meeting, accepting resignations and approving hires and temporary assignments recommended by Mrs. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson summarized staffing changes: resignations by Carly McCammon (second-grade teacher), Ashley Yager (junior/senior applied skills teacher), and Kathleen Knoll (food service clerk and ECA treasurer). The board approved a contract for Kendall Ferguson — an Argos graduate recommended to fill the second-grade position — and authorized Chris Willis as a temporary high-school applied skills teacher while Laura Shaffer transfers into the M.O.M.H. room; Elizabeth Castle was also recommended as an additional aide in the M.O.M.H. room. The board additionally approved volunteer coaches Don Odell (fifth grade), Tara (seventh/eighth grade) and Corey Bowman (sixth-grade girls).
Mrs. Johnson answered board questions about certification and caseload coverage, saying Chris Willis "is not licensed in special ed" yet but has applied for state licensing, has experience as a substitute and has worked with Cardinal Services; Laura Shaffer will continue to oversee IEPs while Chris transitions. The board approved the personnel recommendations by voice vote following a motion and second.
Why it matters: The approved staffing changes preserve classroom coverage and special-education oversight during midyear transitions. The board recorded that several roles are temporary or require ongoing supervision while licensing and caseload transitions proceed.
Next steps: The administration will finalize employment contracts and continue recruiting for speech-language pathology coverage; the board charged staff to monitor caseloads and report back as needed.
