Board adopts additional appropriation for bond proceeds and reviews facility priorities

The South Central Community School Corporation board voted to adopt an additional appropriation of bond proceeds and later approved the final bond resolution during its meeting.

Board members opened the legally noticed public hearing on the additional appropriation, invited brief comments and closed the hearing before taking motions. The chair called for a motion and second; after affirmations the motions carried.

Administrators briefed the board on potential uses for the bond and remaining building-project funds. Officials said they had roughly $138,500 left in the building-project account after several earmarks, about $127,000 remaining in a trustee account previously used for projects such as the football-field lighting, and an additional approximately $995,000 available from the recently approved general obligation bond. Staff said these figures would be used to prioritize repairs and replacements and that any major expenditures would return to the board for approval.

Project priorities discussed included replacing several sets of exterior and interior doors (cafeteria and main entrances among those named), repairing or replacing multiple roof sections, and procuring two school buses over the next two years. Administrators reported they had obtained three vendor quotes for door replacements and one quote of about $196,000 to repair three roof sections identified as priorities. Board members discussed safety considerations (locking hardware, panic devices) and balancing door/roof work with other bond-funded needs.

No final project contracts were approved at the meeting; board members requested additional details and prioritized which doors and roof sections to address first before bringing specific contracts back for formal action.
