Red Oak ISD honors students: National Math Stars nominees, Hawk Scholars, SkillsUSA masonry champion and athletics

Board members and school staff used the May 11 meeting to recognize student accomplishments across academics, career and technical education, athletics and the fine arts.
Lynn Dockery, the district’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, announced the Red Oak nominees for the National Math Stars program and explained eligibility criteria (Texas residency, second or third grade, top ~2% district test performance). Six students were named and invited to continue in the application process.
Principal Brett Hall and other campus leaders presented Hawk Scholars Academy admits and described the program’s dual‑credit goals, including opportunities to earn up to 60 college credit hours and possible associate degrees through partner Navarro College.
The board also acknowledged Arturo Acosta Escamilla, a masonry student who won first place at the SkillsUSA state masonry competition and earned a $10,000 scholarship to TSTC; he will compete at the national SkillsUSA event in Atlanta in June. Coaches and directors introduced and congratulated numerous athletic teams and fine‑arts students for playoff appearances, all‑district recognitions and UIL state solo/ensemble qualifications.
The recognition portion of the meeting underscored a range of student achievements the district will support through scholarships, competitions and post‑secondary partnerships.
