Red Oak ISD board certifies May 2 trustee election, swears in members and elects officers

After the board secretary read canvass totals provided by the Ellis County elections administrator, trustees moved to certify the returns and declare John Anderson (Place 3), Johnny Knight (Place 4) and Shawn Kelly (Place 5) duly elected. The motion carried 7–0.
The board then issued certificates of election and held the swearing‑in of those members. The board followed the oath with nominations for 2026–27 officers. Melanie Peterson was nominated and elected president by unanimous vote. Johnny Mack was elected vice president and Shawn Kelly was elected secretary, each by 7–0 roll call.
Board materials note the canvass and certifications were executed “in the name and by the authority of the state of Texas.” The vote tallies read into the record included totals for contested places and an overall total vote count certified by the county elections administrator.
The board convened at 6:02 p.m. for the regular meeting and moved on to recognitions and the rest of the agenda following officer elections.
