The Venus ISD board on May 18 accepted a donation of a 28-foot band trailer from the Venus Band Booster Club and approved staff’s request to auction four older buses.
Rosie, speaking for the booster club, said boosters raised funds specifically to purchase the 28-foot trailer to reduce rental costs for transporting instruments and equipment and expected the district to transfer title and house the trailer at the district bus barn. Trustees asked logistical questions about licensing, towing requirements and long-term storage; presenters said the trailer is two-axle and can be towed by a pickup and that the district will take title and house it at the bus barn.
The board approved the donation by voice vote. Following that action, transportation staff requested permission to auction four buses that are increasingly expensive to repair. Staff said buses designated for auction were 'dust collectors' costing $800–$1,000 for repairs when they break down; the board approved the auction. A past auction of six buses was referenced as having returned about $7,500 total, a figure trustees used only as a rough expectation for auction proceeds.
Both asset moves are intended to reduce ongoing rental and maintenance costs and to free up space to store the newly donated trailer.
