Venus ISD previews janitorial-service procurement ahead of May decision

District operations staff briefed trustees on April 20 about janitorial services procurement for the upcoming fiscal year and the plan to incorporate the new high school in a full RFP next year.
Staff summarized the prior RFP timeline (three-year term with two one-year extensions) and said the district will use the TIPS cooperative for the 2026–27 year while preparing a district-developed RFP in 2027–28 that includes the new high school’s square footage. Three vendors were discussed: Faulk (the incumbent), McLemore and Marcus & Associates. Staff reported the vendors’ staffing proposals and annual contract estimates: Marcus offered the lowest price with roughly similar staffing; McLemore provided local references and a mid-range price; Faulk’s co-op price was highest but offered continuity with the district’s current service levels.
Board members asked whether principals and campus staff had been consulted on daily coverage and service expectations; staff said they would meet with principals before the May vote. The presenter noted an estimated annual cost increase of roughly $14,000 over the current contract and that final vendor selection will be based on references, staffing models and local responsiveness.
The board did not vote; staff will present formal contract documents and a recommendation in May.
