District program leaders highlight college tours, community service and near‑100% retention in Ignite middle‑school program

District staff gave a detailed presentation on the Muhlenberg Chiefs and Ignite student programs during the superintendent’s report.

A program lead, introduced by the superintendent, told the board the programs organized about 21 college tours this year and more than 105 student‑ or community‑facing events. The presenter cited specific tour figures: one cohort with 53 students toured — 22 subsequently enrolled — and the presenters described trips to Murray State, the University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University and other campuses. The presenters said FAFSA completion in Muhlenberg County is high relative to statewide measures and that college‑access activity has grown.

The Ignite middle‑school program, described by the presenters as a cohort program for high‑potential students who need added support, reported retention close to 100 percent for the year, regular job‑shadow days, paid work experiences and more than 600 student service hours this school year. The presenters said students raised and donated $554 this year to cover adoption fees at a local humane society during paid work events.

Program staff also noted a recently acquired program vehicle to transport students to off‑campus events; the vehicle is used routinely for trips and work events, they said, and was acquired in mid‑March.
