Muhlenberg County board selects Brian Law as next superintendent and approves contract

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education announced Brian Law as the district’s next superintendent and approved his contract during the board’s May monthly meeting.

Board member Mr. Porter summarized the superintendent search process and told the board that a superintendent search committee — chaired by a principal and composed of teachers, principals and PTO representatives — reviewed applicants, recommended candidates for interviews, and forwarded finalists to the board. "We take it very seriously," Mr. Porter said as he described the committee and its work and reported the board’s decision to hire Brian Law.

Law, identified by the board as the chosen candidate, was described by the board as having more than 20 years with the district in classroom and school leadership roles, including classroom teaching and middle‑school administrative experience. The board opened and approved the superintendent contract in open session by voice vote; the chair called for those in favor and reported no objections.

Why it matters: selecting a new superintendent sets district leadership and priorities for the next academic year. The board’s public approval moves the candidate toward taking on the role; the board also noted the hiring followed KRS 160.350 procedures for superintendent contracts.

What’s next: the board said it will finalize transition details with the appointee and that the superintendent’s start date and contract implementation steps will be handled through the central office.

The announcement and contract approval came late in the meeting after routine business and personnel items were considered.
